Resident Evil Requiem Passes $500m as Film Boosts Older Games
Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem has earned over $500m since launch, while the new film drove player spikes for Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes.
Resident Evil Requiem has earned more than $500m since release, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics reported by Eurogamer. The game is the ninth mainline entry in Capcom's long-running horror series and is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
PS5 is reportedly the most popular platform for Requiem, with 4m copies sold on Sony's console. Around 30% of those PS5 sales were physical copies.
The new Resident Evil film, directed by Zach Cregger, opened to more than $108m worldwide, a series-best opening weekend. Capcom began discounting multiple Resident Evil games eight days before the film hit cinemas.
During the film's opening weekend, Requiem's daily PS5 revenue dipped about 4%, from roughly $284k to $271k. Older titles saw the opposite effect: Resident Evil 2's remake drew 48% more players than normal across all platforms while the film was in cinemas, and Resident Evil 3's remake saw a 25% jump.
For comparison, Resident Evil 4's remake has reportedly made more than $600m after three years on sale.
