Rockstar Says Future Games Will Arrive Faster After GTA 6

Rockstar development leads told Bloomberg that the engine and team built for GTA 6 will let the studio ship future games more quickly.

Rockstar Games says it intends to release future games more quickly, now that development on Grand Theft Auto VI is nearly finished. The studio's development leads made the comments in an interview with Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, as reported by pcgamesn.com.

GTA 6 development lead Rob Nelson said the studio aims to ship future titles at a faster pace. Head of Development Phil Hooker pointed to the engine, tools and team assembled during work on GTA 6, saying they will allow Rockstar to do things more quickly.

Art Director and Co-Studio Head Aaron Garbut said the foundational changes are done and will not be torn apart.

Grand Theft Auto VI has moved twice. It was delayed from 2025 to May 2026, and then again to November 2026. Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe had to ask Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick for each of those delays.

A long road to this point

The game has been in development for eight years, since roughly 2018. Rockstar initially planned to build GTA 6 alongside Red Dead Redemption 2, but the scope of that game pulled senior leadership and pushed the next Grand Theft Auto back by several years. The first GTA 6 trailer arrived in December 2023, when the release date was still set for 2025.

On working conditions, Rockstar reported that crunch on GTA 6 had 'not been perfect, but it's certainly better than Red Dead 2 was.' Rumors suggest a GTA 6 PC port could arrive as soon as early 2027.
