Rockstar Details GTA 6 Relationship System in IGN Interview
Rockstar North's Rob Nelson says physical intimacy is a 'huge part' of a relationship and applies to GTA 6, where Jason and Lucia can be lovers or just partners in crime.
Rockstar North's Rob Nelson has revealed new details about how relationships will work in Grand Theft Auto VI, saying in an interview with IGN that physical intimacy is a "huge part" of a relationship and applies to the game.
Nelson said players will be able to role-play the relationship between protagonists Jason and Lucia. They do not have to be romantically involved and can instead be simply partners in crime, he added.
According to Nelson, GTA 6 has a dedicated relationship system separate from the system that tracks what sort of criminal the player is. Growing the relationship can be done through activities such as kayaking and mini-golf, or by robbing stores together.
Nelson said there is no particular gameplay benefit to making Jason and Lucia lovers, though they always benefit from working together and having each other's back. Whether players nurture the relationship will affect how their story plays out.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Previously, the game's ESRB rating noted nudity and strong sexual content, and an international rating mentioned sex scenes. Publisher Take-Two Interactive has not commented further on the relationship system.
