Jagex Sets 2027 Roadmap for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Luminance Update Due December 2026

Jagex announced the 2027 roadmap for RuneScape: Dragonwilds at RuneFest 2026, according to gamespark.jp. The plan includes a free update called Luminance in December 2026, a major story update called Blood Crystal Saga in 2027, monthly free updates from 2027 onward, and official mod support in 2027.

The Luminance update adds a new skill called Prayer. It continues the story after the dragon queen Kuldra was defeated before the Luminance story, and features the bounty hunter Morwyn and an elf named Ceridwen, who is helped by the player. The update also introduces a music mechanic using a Lyre and a Songstone.

The major 2027 story update, Blood Crystal Saga, comprises two stories: Song of Rebellion, the opening story, and Crown of Night. The antagonist faction is the Nos Clan, and the new area is Ailddinas, an elf city corrupted by the clan. Song of Rebellion brings back series creatures including the Kebbit, Impling and Moss Giant, while Crown of Night adds the Dark Bow and Ivandis Flail, with Seren as the source of light power.

New skills Hunter and Slayer were announced for release during 2027. Official mod support in 2027 includes mod creation tools and in-game browsing and installation, planned for all platforms including consoles.

A sale on the PC stores Steam, Epic Games Store and Jagex Launcher starts October 16 at 2:00 AM and runs for two weeks, with the Standard Edition 30% off and the Deluxe Edition 25% off.

At the event, a brand-new MMORPG provisionally titled RS4 was also announced. RuneFest 2026 was held over two days, October 3 and 4 local time, in Birmingham, UK, drawing over 6,000 fans, the largest turnout ever. RuneScape: Dragonwilds began early access on Steam on April 15, 2025, and reached its official 1.0 release on September 15, 2026.
