DelosX announced that its historical turn-based strategy game Salt and Soil: A Frontier Family Sim will enter Steam Early Access on November 10 (KST). The game is developed by the one-person studio and releases on PC.
The Early Access version will support 10 languages, including Korean. A full launch is targeted for the first half of 2027.
Before the Early Access release, the game will take part in Steam Next Fest from October 19 to 26, according to inven.co.kr.
Historical simulation
Salt and Soil depicts a family farming in America from 1607 to 1900, with one turn equaling one year. In August and September, DelosX held separate playtests with 500 participants each; 68% of survey respondents cited historical events and the frontier atmosphere as the best element of the game.
The developer reviewed in-game events and settings based on advice from historians and archaeologists and research databases. This included correcting the Jamestown settler population during the 1609-1610 'Starving Time' from 500 to about 300. The game's US railroad network was built with permission using the historical database of economic historian Jeremy Atack of Vanderbilt University, expanded from a Central Pacific route to major North American railroads from 1830 to 1900. Jamestown Rediscovery archaeologists advised on the first chapter's setting and are credited in the game.
Historian Joe Hall-Patton played two scenarios over about six hours on his YouTube channel The Cynical Historian and praised the game afterward.
