Screamer Patch Adds Single Stick Drift Option, Unlock and Balance Tweaks

Milestone's new Screamer update lets players switch to single stick drift controls before a race, though the studio still recommends Twin Stick.

Milestone has released a new patch for Screamer that adds an option for single stick drift controls, according to Rock Paper Shotgun. Players who prefer the simpler scheme can switch from Twin Stick to single stick in the options menu before starting a race.

Game director Federico Cardini said Twin Stick remains the recommended way to play, because the game's ECHO System was designed around it. The single stick option is available for those who want it.

The same patch touches several other parts of the arcade racer. It changes how certain characters can be unlocked, tweaks how the game detects the default camera distance, and adds balancing for the on-track powers of various competitors. It also removes some unnecessary suspension lines.

On the track side, an invisible wall next to a shortcut on one circuit was moved.

Earlier updates

The new build follows Screamer's first update, which nerfed AI difficulty and promised an additional balance pass soon. Earlier this year, Rock Paper Shotgun's James and the reviewer both raised eyebrows at the game's twin stick drift controls in their review of the anime-styled arcade racer.
