SemiGraph raises over $10 million for 3D virtual idol game

The Shanghai studio is developing a one-on-one idol raising game with IDG Capital and Lenovo Capital among its investors, aiming for a China and overseas launch.

SemiGraph, a studio based in Shanghai, has raised more than 10 million USD, with IDG Capital and Lenovo Capital among the investors, according to gamespark.jp. The funding supports the company's work on a 3D virtual idol interaction and raising game.

In the game, the player takes the role of Producer for a rookie idol named Ria, supporting her growth through singing, dancing and conversation. Training choices made along the way change Ria's abilities.

Earlier tests included AI-generated live-stream-style comments, which let Ria keep performing and interacting even when the user was not speaking. The game generates content per user as a one-on-one experience, rather than sharing generated content among multiple users.

A mobile version is planned, with a PC edition also in the works, each offering a different experience. SemiGraph aims for a simultaneous launch in China and some overseas regions, with region-specific tests planned ahead of release.
