Shadow of Backrooms Announced for 2027, Early Access Soon
Solo developer Panuzi's first-person horror game Shadow of Backrooms targets a full 2027 release, with Early Access planned soon and co-op for up to four players.
Solo developer Panuzi has announced Shadow of Backrooms, a first-person horror game built around survival, exploration and puzzle-solving. The game is set to launch in Early Access soon, with a full release targeted for the end of 2027.
Shadow of Backrooms supports single-player and online co-op for up to four players through Steam lobbies. The initial Early Access version is expected to include several explorable levels, puzzles and entity encounters.
Panuzi plans to expand the game over time with new liminal environments, improved puzzles, additional narrative material and further optimization. The developer says the full release schedule remains uncertain.
The game is expected to be free at first, with its price potentially rising as more content and story elements are added. Shadow of Backrooms is available to wishlist on Steam.
Backrooms' growing reach
The Backrooms concept originated with an anonymous 2019 post depicting an eerie, yellow-tinted space disconnected from reality. Kane Parsons expanded the mythology with a viral found-footage series on YouTube before directing A24's Backrooms feature film, which became a major box office success and inspired several spinoff projects. Parsons is reportedly returning to direct Backrooms 2.
