Sony Warns PS5 Pro Stock Shortages Will Last Into 2027

Sony has told distribution partners that supply constraints and high demand will keep PS5 Pro inventory limited at retailers until at least 2027.

Sony has told its distribution partners that temporary market supply constraints and high demand will continue to limit retailer stock of the PlayStation 5 Pro until at least 2027, according to Engadget. The notice means stores are unlikely to see normal availability of the console for well over a year.

The PS5 Pro is currently in shortage, and resellers are pricing consoles hundreds of dollars above market price. The gap between retail and resale pricing has made the console difficult to find at its standard cost.

Sony expects the situation to worsen with the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19. The game, published by Rockstar Games, is expected to drive additional demand for the PS5 Pro.

Background

The PS5 Pro first released in November 2024. Sony has previously used a lottery system in Japan for purchasing its most advanced console, and in 2020 a global chip shortage constrained PS5 output for more than three years.
