Sony has confirmed it will not attend CES 2027, following a strategic evaluation of its approach to events and communications. The company told Bloomberg about the decision, ending a run of appearances that dates back to 1967.
The pullout comes as Sony says it is focusing more on entertainment, including games, anime, films, and music. CES, primarily a technology show, has been a stage for some of Sony's biggest PlayStation moments.
At CES 2020, then-PlayStation boss Jim Ryan revealed the PS5 logo. Two years later, Sony used CES 2022 to unveil PlayStation VR2 and Horizon: Call of the Mountain. More recently, the company announced Horizon and Helldivers movies at CES events.
CES has a long history with gaming. Microsoft revealed the original Xbox with Dwayne Johnson at CES 2001, and Nintendo showed a prototype of the NES called the Advanced Video System at CES 1984.
CES 2027 is scheduled for January 6-9 in Las Vegas. Sony's absence will leave one fewer major gaming presence at the show.
