SOOP plans new StarCraft: Remastered esports league this year
The company says it could make an official announcement as early as this year, with new league content built on StarCraft 1 to attract new players.
SOOP said it is preparing new esports league content based on StarCraft: Remastered and could officially announce the project as early as this year, according to an interview published by ZDNet Korea on October 17, 2026.
Lim Il-bin, head of SOOP's esports content business division, and Wi Yeong-gwang, head of the content production division, said the new league is intended to bring in new players and revive fan interest in StarCraft 1 esports.
The company said it will continue to stage large-scale finals to motivate players and give something back to fans, and that it aims to build a grassroots ecosystem where streamers and amateur players can take part freely.
SOOP also said it overhauled the broadcast graphics and visuals to remove the impression of an old game. If sponsors and conditions allow, it would consider holding finals at Kwanganri in Busan and other venues requested by fans.
On the global esports broadcast-rights market, the company pointed to its link with its own platform ecosystem, including secondary content made by streamers, as its point of difference.
