Star Citizen Offline Mod ChrisWareOffline Discontinued After CIG Contact

The developer said Cloud Imperium Games reached out about files in the mod, and all downloads and the Discord server have been removed.

The Star Citizen offline mod project ChrisWareOffline has been discontinued, its developer cloudyyrust announced on the mod's official Discord. The developer said Cloud Imperium Games, the studio behind Star Citizen, contacted them regarding files contained in the mod, and that they fully complied with the requests.

The GitHub repository and all download sources were removed, and build-related channels and the Discord server itself were shut down. The developer stated that no future releases or download sources will be made public.

Users were asked to refrain from and delete already downloaded files, distribution archives, derivatives and re-uploads. Posts about the mod in the Star Citizen subreddit were also deleted, according to gamespark.jp.

Subreddit moderators said Cloud Imperium Games had unofficially sent a DMCA notice requesting removal of the post.

Earlier Contact Over the 890J

The direct contact was the second time the two sides had been in touch. The first followed what was described as clear copyright infringement at the time of the release of the in-game spaceship 890J.

The mod worked by bypassing the official servers to enable fully offline solo play. In the early Kickstarter pitch, there was wording about "moddable multiplayer where users can host", and Cloud Imperium Games had previously provided engineering manuals for mod developers.
