Star Wars Galaxies Restoration Adds DirectX 12 in A New Dawn Update
The community project's latest patch also overhauls Kashyyyk, reworks the Scout, Ranger and Doctor professions, and adds mounted combat.
The Star Wars Galaxies Restoration community project released its A New Dawn update on October 24, 2026, according to PC Gamer. The patch adds DirectX 12 support to the game client, alongside a set of new visual effects.
Graphical additions include volumetric fog, clouds and atmosphere, a new water shader and improved terrain distances. The client also gains support for DLSS, FSR and XeSS.
The planet Kashyyyk received new and revamped instances, along with a rebalance of content from the 2005 expansion Revenge of the Wookiees.
Profession and combat changes
The Scout and Ranger professions now have new traps, advanced creature tracking and expanded camp functionality built around a new prestige system. Mounted combat has been implemented for both melee and ranged attacks, and creature taming is now more interactive. The Doctor profession was made less passive.
Player cities can be improved to a higher tier, and a drag-and-drop interface has been introduced for moving furniture. The Restoration team expanded by 13 new members for this update.
Star Wars Galaxies Restoration is free to play and can be downloaded through the project's website. The original Star Wars Galaxies was released by Sony Online Entertainment in 2003.
