Valve's Steam Client Beta Overhauls Remote Play HDR, Restores Deck OLED HDR

The October 22 beta adds an advanced HDR setting, a brightness slider and HDR capture via pipewire on Linux, plus HDR on Android 15 via Steam Link.

Valve released the Steam Client Beta update dated October 22, which overhauls HDR support for Remote Play and brings HDR back to the Steam Deck OLED, according to GamingOnLinux.

The beta adds an advanced client HDR setting with Automatic, On and Off options, giving players direct control over how HDR is handled on the client side. A brightness slider has also been added to the streaming overlay, so levels can be adjusted during a session rather than in settings alone.

HDR capture is now supported with pipewire on desktop Linux and when streaming from macOS. The update also re-enables HDR on the Steam Deck OLED handheld.

On mobile, HDR is enabled for Android phones running Android 15 and newer, provided they use the beta Steam Link app.

HDR returns after earlier removal

HDR support on the Steam Deck had previously been removed because of various issues, according to the article.
