Steam hits 43.5 million concurrent users, a new record

More than 14 million of those users were in-game, also a new high for Valve's platform.

Steam set a new concurrent user record on Sunday, with 43,505,724 users online at the same time, according to Eurogamer. The platform also recorded a new high for players in-game, surpassing 14 million.

The figure is the highest number of simultaneous users in Steam's 23-year history.

Several releases drove activity on the platform. Aion 2, a free-to-play MMO, peaked at 397,905 concurrent players at its worldwide launch, while Deadlock reached a peak of 262,145 concurrent players after a major update.

Forza Horizon 6 is Steam's biggest new release so far this year by revenue.

Earlier record

In January, Steam attracted over 42 million concurrent players, breaking its previous record, and its Autumn Sale recently ended. According to recent estimates, Valve made $15bn (~£11.10bn) from Steam by September.
