Unknown Worlds reveals major Subnautica 2 update, no date set

The update adds a new dark region, story content for colonists, biomods, a round base room, a Frog Tadpole chassis and fin-dashing.

Unknown Worlds has announced the next major update for Subnautica 2, which it calls its "most substantial update since release." The studio detailed the content in the first entry of a new vlog series featuring creative director Anthony Gallegos. No release date was given.

The update adds a new region that the team describes as one of the scariest it has made: dark and threatening, but also beautiful. It also brings new story content covering human colonists and other beings.

New biomods, base room and a walking Tadpole

On the building side, players get more biomods and a new round room for bases. The Tadpole is also getting a new chassis called the Frog, which gives the submersible arms and legs.

Movement changes include the ability to dash while wearing fins, rather than equipping a dash biomod. The Collector Leviathan, a creature that appears as a guest star in Dave the Diver, is also getting new behaviours.

According to Rock Paper Shotgun, which reported the announcement, the studio did not say when the update will arrive. The news follows the earlier Buddy System update, which added proximity chat, easier trading and emotes.
