taskey announces horror board game Midnight Toybox for Steam

The turn-based title is taskey's first original game, and a free demo is already live on Steam alongside a teaser trailer.

taskey announced on October 19 that its first original game, the turn-based horror board game Midnight Toybox, is in development for Steam. A free demo was released on the platform the same day, alongside a teaser trailer, according to gamebiz.jp.

The title is the first original project from the game business taskey has newly established. Its Steam store page is also open for wishlist registrations.

Midnight Toybox is set in a children's room at midnight, where the player is the night's newcomer and is forced into a deadly game by modified toys. Play unfolds on a board of identical-looking pieces that are secretly either infantry, which benefit the taker, or bomb soldiers, which harm the taker.

Strategy cards allow special moves, the theft of an opponent's strategy card, or doubling an acquired piece. A match can be won in three ways: taking three of the opponent's infantry, making the opponent take three of your bomb soldiers, or advancing an infantry to the back of the opponent's territory.

Midnight Toybox will also take part in Steam Next Fest: October 2026 Edition, which runs from October 19 to 26.
