TCL China Star to Start Gen 8.6 Ink Jet OLED Production in 2028

Omdia says TCL China Star plans 32-inch and 34-inch ink jet printed OLED monitor panels with refresh rates up to 700 Hz.

TCL China Star is scheduled to begin production at its Gen 8.6 ink jet printing OLED fab in 2028, according to research firm Omdia. The facility is projected to make the panel maker the first company to mass-produce IJP OLED monitor panels at a Gen 8.6 fab.

The company plans larger panels, including 32-inch and 34-inch sizes, with refresh rates of up to 700 Hz. IJP stands for ink jet printing, a method that prints OLED materials directly onto the substrate and reduces material wastage compared with alternative production processes.

Monitors already on the market exceed 700 Hz: an Asus WOLED panel reaches 720 Hz at 1080p in a 24.5-inch form factor, priced at $1,099.
