The Finals Season 12 adds announcer that says player names

Embark Studios' October 20 update also brings the Mimic Device, the Translocator, the 12-player Solo Showdown mode and reworked destruction physics.

Embark Studios has announced that The Finals Season 12 will launch on Tuesday, October 20, according to PCGamesN. The headline addition is "dynamic commentary", a system that lets the in-game announcer, Scotty, say player usernames in real time across a set number of scenarios.

Audio Director Carl Strandberg said names can become part of the show. The studio had no immediate detail beyond that on how usernames are selected or filtered for the feature.

The update also adds two gadgets, the Mimic Device and the Translocator, and introduces Solo Showdown, a 12-player tournament mode with three randomly selected rounds spread across eight mini-modes.

Destruction physics have been reworked so structures bend, sag and collapse more naturally. Smoke now reacts to forces in the arena, and footstep audio has been improved to help players track enemies.

Existing voice pipeline

The Finals has so far generated its dialogue with text-to-speech built on samples from paid actors, a pipeline the article describes as having produced repetitive lines. Embark is separately pushing for more human performances in Arc Raiders, beginning with an overhaul of the NPC Celeste.
