Unity unveils Unity Spark, prompt-based game tool for Google Playground

Unity Spark is a prompt-based interface for building games inside Google's AI platform Playground and connects directly to the Unity Asset Store.

Unity introduced Unity Spark, a prompt-based interface for creating games inside Playground, Google's AI platform, the company said. The announcement comes as part of a strategic partnership between Unity and Google to develop AI-based game creation tools.

According to Game Developer, Unity Spark is available exclusively for Playground. Developers working in the platform can use Google's publishing tools as well as leaderboards, matchmaking and community features.

The tool connects directly to the Unity Asset Store, letting developers pull assets into projects made through the prompt-based interface.

Developers can experiment with Playground today.

Earlier AI context

Unity's move follows earlier scrutiny of generative AI on its platform. In past coverage, after an employee used Unity Muse to generate an image of Disney's Mickey Mouse on an official live stream, Unity said stronger guard rails were needed on generative AI. Other studios have taken different positions: Pocketpair, the developers of Palworld, has said it "doesn't believe in" generative AI for game development, while Valve's Steam requires a disclosure for AI tools or content used in a game. Earlier this year, Totally Human Media CEO Ichiro Lambe noted that over 8000 games on Steam carried the AI disclosure.
