Valor Mortis, Tenebris Somnia Still Unavailable in Japan Pending CERO

The PS5 version of Valor Mortis and the PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions of Tenebris Somnia were still unavailable in Japan as of October 19, 2026, even though both games have launched overseas, according to gamebusiness.jp. The apparent cause is that neither title has completed CERO rating review.

Valor Mortis launched on PS5 overseas on October 13, 2026. On October 9, the game's official X account said the Japanese rating review was not complete and that the title could not currently be bought on PlayStation in Japan, adding that the team is working actively on a solution and will announce progress promptly.

Tenebris Somnia followed on PS5 and Nintendo Switch overseas on October 16, 2026. A Japanese packaged version is planned by Happinet, which requires obtaining a CERO rating.

The Xbox versions of both games are already sold in Japan under an IARC 18+ rating. PlayStation and Nintendo Switch use IARC for some download software, but domestic stores do not allow a release carrying an IARC 18+ rating and require CERO certification instead.

Earlier cancellations over CERO

Gears of War: Reloaded could not obtain a CERO rating because of blood, gore and intense violence, and its Japanese PS5 release was cancelled while the IARC 18+ Xbox Series X|S and PC versions were released in Japan. Halloween: The Game also had its Japanese PS5 release cancelled after failing to obtain a CERO rating; developer IllFonic said altering the expression to fit review standards would damage the original film's world and the expected gameplay experience.
