Herobeat's Wilderings: The Lost Spring Wins Grand Prize in Barcelona

Herobeat Studios is developing Wilderings: The Lost Spring, a roguelite survival adventure, with Kabam handling publishing, according to 4gamer.net. The game won a grand prize at a local event in Barcelona.

The title is themed around environmental destruction and ecosystem regeneration. Players control a girl who explores, gathers materials, builds a base and copes with threats and harsh climate conditions.

Mysterious creatures called Hântu can be befriended and fought alongside in Pokemon-like mechanics. Purifying polluted areas and reactivating springs brings back indigenous Hântu that had been driven away, and the regenerated wilderness changes from dim scenery to bright spring-like scenery.

Hântu have unique abilities and passive effects and can take over status ailments; they can be fed to level up and combined into teams, the facts state. The base airship, or Skyship, lets players grow plants from collected seeds and resources for permanent upgrades and to evolve companions.

A demo is available on Steam and was recently updated to improve combat, game balance and tutorials. The facts note no mention of Japanese language support at this time, though future updates are hoped for.

Previous Work and Support

Herobeat Studios released Endling - Extinction is Forever in 2022, a game that depicted the survival of a fox parent and cub and received high praise. The studio is supported by ICEC, the Catalan government's cultural enterprise office.
