Blizzard says World of Warcraft Forever sets WoW launch record

Blizzard confirmed Forever drew the highest peak concurrent players of any WoW launch, beating Wrath of the Lich King, and the most returning players ever.

Blizzard Entertainment confirmed on its official Warcraft social media channels that World of Warcraft Forever recorded the biggest launch in the game's history by peak concurrent players, according to windowscentral.com. The announcement was dated November 7, 2026.

The company said the launch beat the record held by Wrath of the Lich King. Blizzard also said Forever posted the highest number of returning World of Warcraft players in the game's history.

Blizzard did not publish the peak concurrent player figures or the number of returning players in the statement. The comparison with Wrath of the Lich King was given without specific numbers.

Wrath of the Lich King was released from a much earlier high point in World of Warcraft's history, almost two decades before this article. Microsoft and Xbox acquired the game a few years ago as part of the Activision, Blizzard and King deal.

World of Warcraft remains available only on PC and through cloud streaming services such as NVIDIA GeForce Now. Blizzard has been teasing a World of Warcraft port to Xbox consoles for some time. The retail version of the game currently runs under the name Midnight.
