Blizzard: WoW: Forever Beta Held Back Items, Secrets for Launch

Blizzard said on a WoW: Forever podcast that many items and secrets were disabled in the beta and remain for players to discover at launch and beyond.

Blizzard Entertainment said on a World of Warcraft: Forever podcast marking the end of the beta that many secrets and items were disabled during the testing period and will be left for players to discover at launch and beyond, according to GameSpot.

Senior game designer Josh Greenfield said a new torch item was turned off in the beta's first week and later enabled to test the game's new lighting and fog technology. He declined to elaborate on a newly discovered sword in the beta that could enable new playstyles such as a melee-focused Battle Mage.

Most items in the beta were hidden from dataminers by a new system that conceals an item's name and stats until the community discovers it. At the start of the beta, over 12,500 items were kept hidden, according to earlier reporting.

Lead encounter designer Michael Nuthals said players may already find places in the game that could become future dungeons, including manors and instance portals in inconspicuous spots. He cited Manor Mistmantle in Duskwood as an example.

The beta had a maximum level of 30, leaving new zones, quests, dungeons and raids unexplored. A roadmap released during BlizzCon 2026 shows Blizzard plans to release new dungeons and raids for Forever next year. The game launches on November 4, and Blizzard also announced a new server ruleset aimed at PvP players.
