Blizzard: WoW Forever Reuses Season of Discovery Economy Systems

Blizzard says World of Warcraft: Forever will apply economy systems built for Season of Discovery and take a slower approach to class changes.

Blizzard Entertainment said World of Warcraft: Forever will reuse economy-management systems developed for World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery, according to TechRadar. The studio also said class changes in Forever will move at a slower and more careful pace.

Blizzard said it went "too far" with class changes in Season of Discovery. The systems built for that seasonal release controlled the inflow and outflow of key resources, which the studio said produced a healthier in-game economy with less real-money trading.

For Forever, Blizzard says a number of new systems are in place to detect real-money trading.

In October 2025, Blizzard confirmed in an interview with TechRadar Gaming that it does not plan to modernize World of Warcraft: Forever's classes, in order to preserve the Classic experience. It has also addressed the game's Skyborne race, explained why the Elf race is available to both Alliance and Horde, and shared why Summoning Stones won't be in Forever.

Season of Discovery as a testing ground

World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery was a seasonal release for Classic that reimagined progression systems, added new abilities, unconventional class roles and redesigned instances.
