Microsoft tests paid Xbox Cloud Playtime packs from $4
Microsoft has opened Xbox Insider testing for a la carte cloud streaming hours, with introductory packs priced at 10 hours for $4 and a 50-hour tier at $12.
Microsoft has started testing a la carte Xbox Cloud Playtime purchases with Xbox Insiders, letting players buy streaming hours without a Game Pass subscription. The company rolled out the test on October 21, 2026, according to Ars Technica.
Under introductory launch pricing, the packs cost $4 for 10 hours, $8 for 25 hours and $12 for 50 hours. Microsoft said purchased playtime remains available until it is used.
The packs require ownership of a cloud playable game, or free-to-play access for select titles. Players stream eligible games they own on supported devices.
Microsoft had said in September 2026 that it would soon let non-subscribers purchase cloud playtime hours through the Xbox Store, after it severely limited the game-streaming access available to Game Pass subscribers.
The model differs from the all-you-can-stream subscription approach that Google took with Stadia, which the company shut down in 2022 and refunded purchases made on the platform.
