Xbox Denies GTA 6 Streaming Exclusivity Report
Xbox strategy chief Matthew Ball says a report claiming Xbox secured exclusive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6 was misreporting.
Xbox has denied a report that it secured exclusive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto 6 at launch, saying the game will not stream exclusively or come to PC. The denial came from Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball, as reported by kotaku.com.
Ball said a report from The Verge claiming Xbox had obtained exclusive game streaming rights for GTA 6 at launch was misreporting. He also confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching on Xbox on November 19.
The Verge's report, published earlier that day, said Xbox head Asha Sharma teased the news to employees during an all-hands meeting that morning. The report stated that GTA 6 comes out on November 19 and that the length of the exclusivity window was unclear.
Xbox has separately been adjusting its cloud gaming offerings. The company will begin capping monthly cloud streaming hours for Game Pass subscribers at 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. At the time, Xbox said the change would only impact 4% of Game Pass subscribers and cited the growing cost of providing cloud gaming.
Xbox is also launching a pay-as-you-go option for cloud gaming in November and is testing a free, ad-supported version of its cloud gaming service with Xbox Insiders.
