Microsoft first unveiled the plan in August, initially offering it to Xbox Insiders. The broader rollout comes as the industry shifts away from physical media. PlayStation announced earlier this summer that it will cease physical game production for new PS5 games in 2028. The next Xbox, still codenamed Project Helix, may not include a disc drive.
