Fortune: Xbox plans à la carte Game Pass bundle

Subscribers would reportedly pick add-ons for console games, cloud gaming and multiplayer; Microsoft has not confirmed the plan.

Microsoft is reportedly planning to let subscribers build their own Xbox Game Pass bundle instead of paying for a preset tier, according to Fortune. The plan would let players choose features à la carte, including add-ons for console-only games, cloud gaming and multiplayer, on a tiered structure.

The report, dated October 24, 2026, follows Fortune's October 2026 profile of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Microsoft has not confirmed the change, and no pricing for a build-your-own option has been reported.

The current line-up is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at $23/month, Premium at $15/month, Essential at $10/month and PC Game Pass at $14/month. Xbox has also started previewing a way for non-Game Pass subscribers to pay to stream games.

Sharma took over as Xbox CEO in February, and the division has since gone through layoffs, studio sales and tweaks to core products and services. In 2025, Game Pass had a price hike, and one of the first announcements after Sharma took control was a price cut to Game Pass Ultimate.

In April, Windows Central reported that Xbox hoped to offer a more flexible version of Game Pass in which users could decide which content packages they wanted. Xbox retired the Xbox Live Gold subscription in 2023, folding online multiplayer into the tier now called Essential.
