Report: Next-Gen Xbox Project Helix Slips to Holiday 2028

A new report projects a later launch window and an unusually high price for the next-gen Xbox, while AMD leaker Kepler L2 says the hardware side is not the cause.

A new report claims that Microsoft's next-generation Xbox, known as Project Helix, is now planned to launch in Holiday 2028 instead of late 2027, according to wccftech.com. The report also includes an unprecedented projected price for the system.

AMD leaker Kepler L2 wrote on NeoGAF that there is no delay on AMD's side, and that Microsoft's recent statements pointed to a 2027 release. Kepler L2 speculated that any delay, if real, could stem from software or production issues, or from waiting for a big launch-window exclusive.

The shift would change the order of the next generation. If Project Helix arrives in Holiday 2028, the PlayStation 6 would be the first next-gen system on the market, provided Sony's console is not itself delayed to late 2028. Sony has not commented on PlayStation 6 timing.

The late-2027 window had been widely suggested for Project Helix before this report. Earlier this year, a separate report said a decision on PlayStation 6 timing would likely be made early next year.
