Xbox Forms XP Division to Bring Franchises to Film, TV and Theme Parks
Kayleen Walters, formerly president of Minecraft, will run the new XP division, which Xbox says will also cover consumer products and live events.
Xbox has formed a new division called XP that will extend its franchises into film and TV, consumer products, live events, brand partnerships and theme parks, according to GameSpot.
Kayleen Walters, previously president of Minecraft and a former Lucasfilm executive, is running XP.
Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said theme parks will be part of the new division. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said the upcoming Minecraft theme park is the first of many theme park placements to come.
The Minecraft theme park was announced earlier: in 2024 Microsoft said it was in the works, and earlier this year the company said it will open in the UK next year with themed food. It will sit within Chessington World of Adventures.
Other game companies have taken a similar route. Nintendo has brought franchises including Mario and Donkey Kong to Universal Studios theme parks in the US and Japan.
