Aardman Animator Loyd Price, Known for Chicken Run, Dies
Aardman co-founder Peter Lord paid tribute to Loyd Price, who also co-directed the Wallace & Gromit's Cracking Contraptions shorts.
Aardman has announced the death of animator and supervisor Loyd Price, who worked on Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The studio shared the news in a tribute written by co-founder Peter Lord, according to cartoonbrew.com.
Price's credits also included the 1995 short A Close Shave. He served as supervising animator on Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and co-directed the Wallace & Gromit's Cracking Contraptions shorts with Chris Sadler.
In 2005, Price spoke to Animation World Network's Andrew Osmond about the demands of sustaining Gromit's silent performance across a feature film. His work on the character earned him the Visual Effects Society's award for outstanding animated character in an animated motion picture in 2006.
Peter Lord recalled that Price trained animators in the late 1990s, helping build the team central to Aardman's feature production. He also remembered a retirement party packed with animators Price had guided throughout their careers.
In a video on The Movie Times YouTube channel, Price described animation as acting in slow motion and recalled biweekly screenings of footage with fellow animators.
