Abundantia Turns AI Division AiOn Into Standalone Studio

Abundantia Entertainment announced that its AI production division, Abundantia AiOn, is becoming a fully standalone native AI studio. The division will develop its own stories, create its own content and produce both fully generated and hybrid work, according to deadline.com.

Vikram Malhotra, who founded Abundantia, will remain in charge of AiOn for the time being. AiOn describes itself as human-first and AI-empowered.

The move followed a surge in pitches over the last six months from people outside the conventional filmmaking ecosystem, the company said. AiOn is also teaming with an AI video technology company studio launched earlier with InVideo.

Background

Abundantia Entertainment launched the AI production division under the AiOn name in 2025. Earlier in 2026, Abundantia announced an AI studio initiative with AI video technology company InVideo to launch a film studio developing a slate of five films over the next few years.

Malhotra launched Abundantia in 2013 after leaving a role as COO of Viacom18 Motion Pictures and a spell leading Balaji Motion Pictures. The company's credits include Baby, Airlift, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, Shakuntala Devi, Sherni and Chhorii and Chhorii 2, and it produced Prime Video's Breathe. In 2026, Netflix released Abundantia's film Maa Behen, starring Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri, which became the #1 trending film on Netflix India in the week of its June release and rose to #2 in global non-English films. Also in 2026, Prime Video released the company's film Subedaar, an action drama directed by Suresh Triveni and fronted by Anil Kapoor, and the series Daldal, starring Bhumi Pednekar. Subedaar was notable for being Anil Kapoor's first action movie since S. Shankar's Nayak: A Real Hero, released in 2001.
