Airwolf Lands Free on The Roku Channel
The 1980s CBS action series about a high-tech helicopter is now streaming at no cost, with all three leads intact.
The 1980s CBS action series Airwolf is now available to stream for free on The Roku Channel. The show, built around a modified high-performance helicopter of the same name, joins the platform's free catalog.
Airwolf premiered on CBS in 1984. Jan-Michael Vincent starred as Stringfellow Hawke, a test pilot, while Ernest Borgnine played his friend and mentor Dominic Santini. Alex Cord played Archangel, Hawke's contact with the intelligence organization known as the Firm.
Borgnine, who appeared throughout the series, had won the Best Actor Oscar for 1955's Marty, beating Frank Sinatra, James Dean, Spencer Tracy and James Cagney.
The helicopter itself outlived the show. After the series ended, the real aircraft was stripped of its modifications and sold to a German company, where it served as an air ambulance before crashing in 1992.
A full-size replica spent several years at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation before being sold to a private collector. As of 2019, according to the museum, it sat atop a $250 million mansion in Bel Air, California.
