Alfonso Cuarón said he is writing a new screenplay in the horror genre. The filmmaker described the script as very interesting and revealed the project while discussing his upcoming work in Korea, according to joblo.com.

Before that screenplay reaches the screen, Cuarón will first work in horror on the thriller series Ascension for Apple TV. Natalie Erika James and Christian White serve as co-showrunners on the series, with James also directing.

Ascension is inspired by Adam Nevill's novel Last Days and follows documentary filmmaker Rose. The show is produced by Apple Studios, Cuarón's Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content. No release date has been announced.

Cuarón has moved between genres throughout his career. In 2013, he and his son Jonas Cuarón collaborated on the space drama Gravity, which won 7 Oscars including Best Director for Alfonso. The two are working together again on the upcoming immigrant film Cabacho Champion.
