Amazon MGM Extends Theatrical Run of Ali G: Who Iz I?

The Sacha Baron Cohen film adds Los Angeles, New York and Chicago-area theaters before its Prime Video debut on Wednesday.

Amazon MGM Studios has extended the theatrical run of Ali G: Who Iz I?, taking the film past the two days originally announced, according to hollywoodreporter.com. The film opened in theaters on Friday.

The added screenings include several Los Angeles area theaters, AMC Empire 25 in New York City and AMC South Barrington 24 in the Chicago suburbs.

The extension comes ahead of the film's worldwide debut on Prime Video on Wednesday. The studio has not reported box office grosses for the release.

Amazon MGM said the stunt release delivered against its goals of awareness, excitement and FOMO. The theatrical strategy was conceived to eventize the release before the film heads to streaming, THR previously reported.

Ali G: Who Iz I? marks Sacha Baron Cohen's feature directorial debut. He originated the Ali G character on Da Ali G Show in the early 2000s, and his later films include Borat in 2006, Brüno in 2009 and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, which went directly to Prime Video in October 2020 and landed two Academy Award nominations.
