Andy Weir Hopes Project Hail Mary Success Revives Star Trek Pitch

Sci-fi author Andy Weir says he wants another chance to pitch his Star Trek series idea, citing recent changes in the franchise's corporate ownership.

Sci-fi author Andy Weir has said he hopes the success of the Project Hail Mary film adaptation will help him get a second chance to pitch a Star Trek series, according to an interview with Inverse.

Weir declined to reveal details of his Star Trek idea, but said he would like to pitch the series again given recent changes in the franchise's corporate ownership.

In March, Weir pitched a Star Trek series on the Critical Drinker podcast.

In Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling stars in the film adaptation of Weir's novel, which was a critical and commercial hit, according to Polygon.

The Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance merger recently completed. Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy are both set to end sometime in 2027. Discovery began airing in 2017 and ended a 12-year drought for Star Trek television. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have been tapped to helm a Star Trek film reboot, and they revealed their film will be inspired by Training Day and Crimson Tide and focus on all-new characters.
