Avatar Studios announces prequel series Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos
The series, unveiled at New York Comic Con, is the franchise's first animated prequel and the first to center on an Avatar before Aang.
Avatar Studios announced the animated prequel series Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos at New York Comic Con, according to Collider. The project is the franchise's first animated prequel and the first series to focus on an Avatar before Aang.
The series will follow a young Kuruk as he learns to control the elements while traveling the world against years of tradition, to his teacher's irritation.
Kuruk's place in the timeline has long been sketched out in other Avatar material. The Kyoshi novels reveal the truth about Kuruk's life and show that he accomplished a lot in his brief time as an Avatar. The Yangchen novels and the Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novels emphasize that Yangchen neglected the spirits, leaving Kuruk in a difficult position.
Kuruk held the title of Avatar for a short time and was the most recent Water Tribe Avatar before Aang. Avatar: The Last Airbender aired from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon.
Avatar Studios has not announced a release date or platform for Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. Avatar: Seven Havens is also among the franchise's announced projects.
