Avengers: Endgame: Encore Leads Weekend With $23M-$26M

Disney and Marvel Studios brought Avengers: Endgame: Encore back to 3,060 theaters this weekend, and audiences turned out. The three-hour re-release earned an estimated $11M on Friday and is projected to finish the frame between $23M and $26M.

Previews for the Encore run grossed $3.8M, ahead of the $3.4M posted by the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith re-release. The numbers, reported by Deadline, put the Marvel title at the front of a crowded marketplace.

Resident Evil, directed by Zach Cregger, is holding strong in its second weekend. Playing at 3,684 locations, the film is projected for a $22M three-day gross and should push its domestic total to roughly $102.1M by the end of Sunday.

Paramount's Heart of the Beast is at 3,435 sites with a Friday estimate of $7.5M and a three-day estimate of $20.5M. The film carries a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Among the weekend's other wide entries, A24's Primetime grossed $2.7M in previews at 2,859 theaters, while Universal and DreamWorks Animation's Forgotten Island earned $3.9M on Friday including previews and is projected at $10.1M for the three-day frame. The film is 95% fresh with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The top five films are projected to combine for between $95M and $98M. Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains the highest domestic grossing Spider-Man movie ever and will sit at around $950M by Sunday. Warner Bros. will look to keep the momentum going when its animated The Cat in the Hat arrives on November 6.
