Avengers: Endgame Reclaims Global Box-Office Crown From Avatar
Endgame overtakes Avatar again during its re-release ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, despite an 83% weekend drop at the domestic box office.
Avengers: Endgame has reclaimed the title of highest-grossing movie in global box-office history, overtaking Avatar. The switch comes as Endgame is currently in a major re-release ahead of its sequel, Avengers: Doomsday, according to Collider.
During the re-release, Endgame remained in the domestic top 10 despite an 83% weekend decline.
The film originally finished its run as the highest-grossing movie ever made. Avatar reclaimed the top spot when it was re-released in 2022.
In the seven years since Endgame's run, the Marvel Cinematic Universe delivered underperformers such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels and Thunderbolts*. Earlier this year, Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke Endgame's record for the biggest domestic debut of all time, and eventually overtook Endgame on the all-time domestic charts.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release this December.
