Endgame Reclaims All-Time Box Office Crown From Avatar

Disney's theatrical re-release pushes Avengers: Endgame to $2.925 billion worldwide, edging past Avatar's $2.923 billion, according to Variety.

Avengers: Endgame has returned to the top of the all-time box office chart. With Disney's recent theatrical re-release, the Marvel film has grossed $2.925 billion worldwide, overtaking Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie in history again, according to Variety.

The re-release alone has generated more than $126 million worldwide, while Avatar stands at $2.923 billion globally after five re-releases.

Disney and Marvel reissued Endgame to build excitement for Avengers: Doomsday, which debuts in December. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, it is the 39th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The MCU has now generated $35.07 billion across all its movies, following this summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With Fox's film assets, Disney is responsible for seven of the 10 highest-grossing movies.

A record that has changed hands before

Avatar spent a decade as the biggest release ever until Endgame overtook it in 2019 during its initial run. In 2021, Endgame dropped to No. 2 when Avatar returned to theaters ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water, which went on to gross $2.33 billion. Titanic sits at $2.26 billion and Avengers: Infinity War at $2.05 billion.
