BFI London Film Festival Opens With Elsinore Premiere

Andrew Scott attended the European premiere of Elsinore at the Royal Festival Hall as the 70th BFI London Film Festival opened.

The 70th BFI London Film Festival opened with the European premiere of Elsinore at the Royal Festival Hall, attended by Andrew Scott and the film's cast.

Elsinore was directed by Simon Stone from a script by Simon Beresford. Scott plays Scottish actor Ian Charleson in the film.

The premiere audience gave Scott a standing ovation and also applauded HIV/AIDS consultant Dr. Margaret Johnson, played by Olivia Colman.

After the screening, Scott introduced a song from The Ethel Merman Disco Album performed in the film as a tribute to Charleson.

Festival Context

Elsinore previously premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, according to Variety. In 1989, Ian Charleson replaced Daniel Day-Lewis in Hamlet at London's National Theatre and died seven weeks after leaving the production.

The London Film Festival runs Oct 7-18 and will feature screenings including Wild Horse Nine, La Bola Negra, Club Kid, Ink, Artificial, Primetime and The Debut.
