Elena's arrival follows a major shift for Baez, who adopted her daughter in the Blue Bloods season 12 finale. The character now steps into the spinoff's next chapter as Danny Reagan continues his work with the Boston Police Department.

Danny and Baez's relationship has also evolved. The two began a romantic relationship in Boston Blue season 1 and move in together after the season finale.

The spinoff was created by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Season 2 will build on the show's established blend of police work and family drama, with Elena's casting adding a new generational thread to Baez's story.
