Captain America #16 Preview: Doom Weaponizes Steve's Soul Against Mephisto
A preview of Captain America #16 shows Doctor Doom using sorcery to fuse the shattered Antidivine shards into Steve Rogers' soul, per screenrant.com.
Doctor Doom has turned Steve Rogers' soul into a weapon against Mephisto, according to a preview of Captain America #16 reported by screenrant.com. In the preview, Doom uses sorcery to implant the shattered Antidivine shards into Steve's soul, making it harmful to Mephisto and forcing the demon to retreat.
The issue is written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Valerio Schiti, and Marvel Comics will release it on Wednesday, October 28.
The shards are the remains of a weapon forged earlier in the storyline. In the Hell arc, Captain America and Doom defeated the Red Skull, but their Antidivine weapon was shattered in the process.
Doom sacrificed himself at the end of the One World Under Doom event to save Valeria Richards' life. Earlier in 2026, Steve ended up comatose after fighting Red Hulk in the current Captain America title, and Doom transported his consciousness to Hell to help overthrow Mephisto as its ruler.
Captain America #15 ended with Steve in dire straits. In the Hell storyline, Mephisto offered Doom his life in exchange for eternally torturing Valeria, and offered Steve his soul for keeping everyone else on Earth safe.
