Carrie Coon Says Scheduling Is Main Hurdle for Ghostbusters 5

Carrie Coon says she has not spoken with the Ghostbusters creative team in some time, and that everyone's schedules are the main obstacle to a sequel.

Carrie Coon said at the 2026 BFI London Film Festival that she has not reached out to the Ghostbusters creative team in some time, and that scheduling is the main hurdle standing in the way of another film. According to screenrant.com, the actor, who plays Callie Spengler, also said filmmaker Jason Reitman had an idea for the next Ghostbusters movie a long time ago.

Coon made her franchise debut in 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, playing the daughter of the late Egon Spengler. She returned for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which brought the story back to New York.

Gil Kenan, who co-wrote and directed Frozen Empire, confirmed a sequel as of October 2024. That project has generally been referred to as Ghostbusters 5. No release date or production start has been announced.

Beyond the live-action series, the franchise has other projects in the works. Netflix announced in December 2024 that it was developing an animated Ghostbusters film with Kris Pearn attached as director, and the streamer's animated series, officially titled Ghostbusters: Night Shift and set in 1994, is slated for release sometime in 2027.
