CBS Sports names JJ Watt lead NFL analyst on multi-year deal

Watt, who joined the network in 2023, will call the top games with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson, including Super Bowl LXII.

CBS Sports has named JJ Watt its lead NFL analyst under a new multi-year agreement, the network announced on October 22, 2026. The announcement was made by David Berson, Chairman, Global Sports Group, Skydance.

Watt will continue calling the network's top games alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. The team is set to call Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta next season.

Watt joined CBS Sports in 2023 as a studio analyst on The NFL Today. Last season he moved to the booth, calling games with Ian Eagle and Evan Washburn, and at the start of the 2026 season he began working with Nantz and Wolfson.

The promotion follows a change at the top of the network's NFL coverage: earlier in October 2026, CBS Sports and Tony Romo parted ways after Romo was arrested in a traffic stop in Milwaukee on July 23 and charged with operating while intoxicated, according to Deadline.

Watt played 12 NFL seasons with the Houston Texans (2011-20) and Arizona Cardinals (2021-22) after being drafted No. 11 overall by Houston in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin. A three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the 2017 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, he finished his career with 114.5 sacks and was inducted into the Houston Texans Ring of Honor in 2023.
