Christopher Abbott rules out Avengers: Doomsday role
The actor, cast as Professor X in Marvel's X-Men film, told Rolling Stone he is not in Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18, 2026.
Christopher Abbott said he is not in Avengers: Doomsday, closing off speculation that he would appear in the film before his X-Men debut. The actor made the statement in an interview with Rolling Stone, according to screenrant.com.
"I'm not in that movie," Abbott said, adding that he does not know what is happening with the project. He also said he has to make the X-Men movie first "before any of that stuff."
Abbott was direct about the denial, saying there is "no coyness" about it. He is cast as Charles "Professor X" Xavier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's X-Men film, a role previously played on screen by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.
In August 2026, Abbott was confirmed at D23 to join the cast of that X-Men movie, which is currently slated for a 2028 release. Avengers: Doomsday, meanwhile, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Marvel actors have denied appearances before only to show up on screen — Andrew Garfield repeatedly said he was not in Spider-Man: No Way Home before the film's release.
