Cineverse is teaming with horror creator Trevor Henderson to adapt the podcast Mayfair Watchers Society into a feature film, the studio announced. According to Variety, the project will take the form of a found footage anthology.
The film will follow different stories and creatures drawn from the podcast, among them The Needle, Creekman, Owls with Teeth, Mr. Bag, Anxious Dogs, Scissors and The Clatter.
Henderson will produce the Mayfair Watchers Society movie and will also be part of its writing team. The deal was negotiated by Macias and Cineverse VP Creative Development and Filmmaker Relations Steven Peros.
From podcast network to big screen
The Mayfair Watchers Society podcast launched in 2022 as part of Cineverse's Bloody FM network and is presented as a collection of found tapes and audio accounts.
Cineverse is the genre studio behind films including Terrifier 3, The Toxic Avenger remake and Silent Night, Deadly Night. Its recent releases include the 20th anniversary presentation of Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth, which hit theatres Oct. 8.
Henderson has also seen other work move toward film. Rights to his Siren Head went to Warner Bros. after a competitive bidding war, with director Brian Duffield and screenwriter Zach Cregger attached, while TriStar Pictures picked up the rights to his Cartoon Cat a few weeks later.
