In a new interview, director James Watkins said his father, Dr. George Watkins CBE, died suddenly during post-production on the film. Watkins said DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran gave him time to be with his family after the death.
Watkins also addressed a production detail involving Tom Rhys Harries, who plays Matt Hagen. According to the director, the actor concealed a torn ACL until filming a sequence in which Hagen flees a premiere and is hit by a car. Watkins said the injury did not affect Rhys Harries' casting.
The film follows Watkins' 2008 breakout Eden Lake; in 2024 he reimagined Christian Tafdrup's 2022 horror film Speak No Evil for American audiences.
