Clayface Nears $3.5M in Thursday Previews, Eyes $20-25M Opening

The R-rated DC horror film, made for $44 million before marketing, heads into its debut weekend against A24's expanding documentary You Can See Everything.

Clayface pulled in an estimated $3.5 million or more from Thursday previews and is tracking toward a domestic opening weekend of $20 million to $25 million, according to JoBlo.com.

The DC film is an R-rated standalone horror story about actor Matt Hagen, whose disfigurement leads him to an experimental treatment. James Watkins directs, with Tom Rhys Harries in the lead and Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, David Dencik and Eddie Marsan in supporting roles. The budget was $44 million before marketing expenses.

The weekend's other wide player is You Can See Everything, Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's 174-minute documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, which expands to approximately 2,600 locations after opening last weekend to $15.6 million on 855 screens.
